Defending Marriage

Homosexual activists and their allies are not content with gaining social and political acceptance.  They are demanding legal acceptance.  On June 26, 2003, the U.S. Supreme Court surrendered to one of their demands, in the Lawrence v. Texas decision that in effect declared all laws prohibiting homosexual sodomy as unconstitutional. This decision is second only to Roe v. Wade in its impact on American morality because homosexuality is now considered as a constitutional right.

Think about it.  One day, homosexual sodomy was a crime; the next day it became a fundamental right in America.  And it follows that homosexual "marriage" will be declared legal next.  Recent events are alarming:

  • Anarchists and Activist Courts in several states have deliberately disobeyed the law and countered the will of the people in performing homosexual marriages.
  • The California legislature is currently considering legislation to legalize gay marriage.
  • The Massachusetts Supreme Court in a 4-3 decision has already paved the way for legalization in that state.

Indeed, same sex "marriage" was legalized in Massachusetts on May 17, 2004.  Here's the problem: Because of the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution, it will be declared legal in every state.  It is the domino effect.   Consequently, many predict that homosexual "marriage" will be legalized all over America in the not too distant future.

The only thing left to protect marriage is a Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  Here is a version of the proposed amendment:

"Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution or the constitution of any State, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups."

Time is short.  While the President and a number of Congressmen have signed on to support a Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA), many others are getting cold feet from a lack of support from the Christian community.

What can you do about it?

1. Pray – Unless God intervenes, empowers, and grants wisdom and direction, whatever we undertake is futile.
